Compare the book list before you compare the price
Florida publishes exactly which references its examination is written from. The list has two halves: thirteen books you carry into the testing room, and five you study at home and may not bring in.
Questions come from all eighteen. But a school can advertise a cheaper book package simply by leaving the second half out — and the five study-only titles are commonly sold afterwards as an optional extra, often several hundred dollars on top.

The content of the Florida contractors examination is in a continual state of change. Every examination contains five new questions — pilot questions — and the emphasis of the exam today is not what it was six months ago. The state also revises its required book list at will.
